New Programs

As some of you may have noticed, new programs have been being added. So far this just includes the F-13, the Bomber, and the AAA. There will definitely be more coming. In the near future you can look forward to a Decoy and a MineLayer.

I will also be making a list showing detailed descriptions and optimal equipment for each OKE in the near future.

If at any time anyone feels they can beat my programs then please post a comment. This blog was created with the hope that that would happen.

Hey Watson, I accept your challenge. Give me the three you want to team together and I will see what kind of damage I can do. I've already started on AAA... he's a tough nut to crack.

I actually use a several variations depending on my opponent. For example, 3 AAAs for air opposition. For Purely ground I might use 2 Bombers and a Mine Layer.

The Infantry was designed as a standard to beat any opposition encountered within the game. Three of those make a powerful opponent, but for any opponent other than AAA I'm pretty likely to use 2 Infantry and 1 Bomber.

As for aerial units, my standard is 2 F-13s and a Decoy. Once again though, the AAA is a devastating opponent here.

Good luck on beating some of those. Like I've said, that's the purpose of the blog.

I like the same general configuration too, with two ground units and a bomber. Also like to use a bomber, a long-range air unit and a ground unit to mix things up. To me the flying oke's are the most fun to program for the radical maneuvers they can pull off. I'm so glad to have found this site and the depot, I've loved this game since I first played but the computer gets boring to beat so mostly, I've tried to think up different styles. Lately, I've been trying to create a legged oke that actually uses the obstacles as shields - not working so great yet.

I've already made great improvements to my bombers just by going up against your AAA. I had to make a few changes though to the AAA software, there may be some areas you left out or I copied wrong. Should have one or two programs ready to be shared soon once I get the images created. Do you know when the cutoff is for entries?

Thanks for making this blog!

You sound like me just a couple months ago.

If you want to make sure you have my programs exactly, you can simply use an emulator and the saved game file on this blog.

As for the cutoff, I wish I knew that too. Hopefully it won't be too long, but long enough for everyone to get their programs in.

I'm also thinking that I should put the e-mail associated with my Windows Live Messenger account (DHolmes13@msn.com) on here so people like you can IM me. As you understand, a conversation on this game is nearly impossible to find.

Hahaha, I can imagine. The only person I've ever met who liked this game was my little cousin who didn't have any choice in the matter since I was babysitting. His oke's mostly just jumped left - there was a variant though that jumped right once - haha. I'm making some last minute changes and should have two or three for a team soon, I haven't played this game in years so I had to start from scratch. I guess we should post on depot but nobody responds there much ...

Well, I'm hoping they will eventually link the images on this blog or maybe even the blog itself, but I wasn't going to wait for them to get around to it.

When you do get a team ready, I'm definitely interested in seeing what someone else who's good at this game came up with. The messenger really is the best way to get this done (in my opinion) but if you don't want to use a messenger then that's fine too.

After trying to create an image file from the images on the depot, I thought it might be easier to make an image writer in javascript so here is the result of my madness: http://www.clearblueoptimusprime.com/carnageheart/
- I posted the link with directions over at the depot, works best in FireFox2. Hope this helps more people join in...

Overall, it looks great. In fact, I think I'll use it for the next program I transcribe.

Only a few minor things I would change to make it more like the actual game and more fool-proof. The arrows to change the directions of the chip only go one direction and there is no protection against arrows pointing at each other. Also, the setup doesn't limit what you can equip based on weight or main/sub weapon type.

Like I said, it works fine. I'm just a perfectionist when it comes to programming.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for checking it out! I've just updated the arrows and mech options but validating the software would be a bit more complex. I'm working on getting all the specs to display where the over-sized purple chip is. What type of programming do you do? Sorry, I don't have an IM but if it's better, I can email you at that address. I've got a team together if you want to check it out ;p

At this point, the only programming I do is for fun, seeing as I'm a college student on summer vacation. I've done basic stuff in VB, C++, and Java (in that order).

Actually, you should think about getting a messenger. They're surprisingly useful at times. Of course, I'm not going to go through too much effort to convince you since it's really just a matter of convenience.

If it does come down to e-mail, I would prefer you e-mailed me at watson@sherlockholmesloans.com. I get so much spam on the other one that I might accidentally delete the wrong message.

I have my first team posted here: http://thuferhawat.blogspot.com/
Let me know how it goes.

Alright, I've finally gotten a few matches against your team and I have to say, I was impressed by the bomber. Not only with the mine evasion, but I liked the use of counters for larger moves. Definitely a useful idea. I suspect I will be trying to do something with that concept in the near future with my own programs.

I was surprised when I saw the team beat 3 AAAs, but then I realized that by using 3 AAAs I had lost my range advantage so I replaced one of them with an Infantry and that completely changed the outcome.

Out of curiosity I also tried using 3 Infantry, but as expected they were no match for a bomber.

I'm thinking that the next OKE I bring back will be my close-range ground OKE, designed initially to take out my Infantry, but still highly effective against air. You can look forward to seeing that up in the near future.

thuferhawat said...

Thanks for checking out my OKEs. I look forward to your other programs - your AAA helped me a lot with improving the KrakenKruzer. My other two are rather weak since I just needed something to fill in the ground units so I'll be working on improving those for my next team - hopefully in time for the tournament...

Watson said...

I decided to try those ideas from your KrakenKruzer and the results are a much more defined double-flank attack and higher bombing efficiency. I'm still fine-tuning and experimenting with different possibilities, but the result will be an upgraded bomber and possibly a purely aerial all-purpose team (which is a lot of fun to make).

thuferhawat said...

Arial units are the most fun for me - I wouldn't still be playing this game without them (well maybe) let me know when you've got some new guys up. I should get serious and write a couple new programs but it really doesn't look like there is going to be a tournament unless we take it over.

Watson said...

I apologize for delaying so much. I've been working on another project at the same time (a crossbreed between an RPG and a shooter in java). It's easy to get caught into making special attacks.

Anyway, I can't argue with the fact that the depot hasn't been very active, but that shouldn't stop us from competing with each other. If it takes too long then maybe I could host my own tournament, but I wouldn't want to act prematurely.

Watson said...

I'm thinking that with the way my schedule is going to get busier and busier it's going to make it very difficult to compete with any kind of speed (like the last few weeks have been). However, I believe that if I shift to using the saved game file I should be able to keep a decent pace.

Of course, this only works if you've gotten the emulator to work so please tell me whether or not this will work.

Watson said...

In case you do use an emulator (or start using one soon), I updated the saved game file to include two more programs.

The first is an upgraded bomber, at least in some respects. It is basically more careful in its approach and is thus much more reliable, but because it is more careful it doesn't have nearly the same damage potential.

The second is a suppressor. Its primary purpose is to limit the enemy's ability to function, allowing for a much easier kill by more direct attacks.

Hi All,

Its great that there is community out for this game.

I have had a go against "AAA" with various types of my own flying OKE's.
AAA put up a good fight although he normally lost. To be fair i think there is some errors on the program image i downloaded. Some were obvious & easily repaired. But i had the feeling that there were some i missed.

One thing that stood out was the green channel radio command. I also couldn't see where "C" could ever equal "2".

Lastly, Missile jammers do use fuel when they are "working" against missiles. One AAA ran out, 125 seconds into a match (on a 150 gallon tank!)

Sorry if i seem picky but i would hate to think my victory was simply down to a few little errors.
& would love to see how the correct "AAA" would fare.

I have one of my own OKE's posted on a blog now.
please take a look.
& feel free to comment

The AAA was actually designed specifically for bombers, so that may also be part of that, but if you want to be absolutely certain that there aren't any errors then use the saved game file. I know that one is right.

I should be able test out your OKE sometime this weekend if I get lucky.

My schedule has been getting filled very quickly lately so I may not be able to respond as quickly as I would like, but I will get to it once I get some free time.

Watson said...

I'm still facing delay after delay. This sort of thing happens when you take 17 credit hours + work study + working on a political campaign. Once I finally get a break I should be able to get more involved, but I'm still watching the blogs.

Sorry I haven't gone against your OKE yet, but at least the primary for that election is today so I should, theoretically, have more time in the near future (since there should be more volunteers to do the work).

Anyway, just letting you know I'm still here.

I had been living in denial! People who stand against this diet state that a young woman in prime health
or man might withstand the intense routine for a very good reason.
But, then, it is actually very healthy for you. Not too harsh, not too expensive and can give you fast outcomes inside a short
time only. This is to be safely body clenseed after drinking do much alcohol.
Now the problem with this is that fasting is the elimination of toxins.
